GREAT WORK PROPOSAL
How to create MPC like educational institutions globally
This project has really caught my attention because if it weren’t from receiving this education which has given me the possibility to have a broader perspective of life, God knows where I would be now, probably pursuing somebody else’s passion, and not my own.
My learning journey I’ve had since I can remember has been completely different from the one I am now taking, and will probably will be somehow different in a few years from now.
I have gone through so many growth experiences at the MPC that has developed in me, not only a student than enjoys the art of learning, but also as an awaken human being that has determination into holding onto my vision to reaching a better an improved world above the status quo. That when I think it’s only been 2 years of college, it gives me chills, because I can barely think of an experience that meaningful happening me during my 12 years in school. The amount of changes one can be aware of, just by being the owner of one’s education is as unlimited as you continue having experiences and therefore evolving.
Are you with me when I say that Personal growth can be controlled by someone exterior to you?… NO. Exactly. (MP- Discovery) And I will also add that Personal growth comes only to a mind immersed in its pursuit.
How? The culture created by my peers and I at the MPC gave me the space to explore the standards of what it means to me: to be a well-educated person. Personal growth cannot be discovered, if someone else has taken the responsibility of giving you the meaning of your life. By having lived certain experiences in school allowing this to happen, it helped me to make a distinction between the before and after being a member of the MPC. 1.The “unconscious” state with 2. making use of my consciousness through self-discovery. It was until I noticed that I had the responsibility and decision to be the one giving the meaning of my life that I follow through the framework provided by our standards, and it has tacitly interiorized with integrity into the principles I now live by.
This principles/virtues are:
Having fear of failure might be one of my weaknesses, because honestly tell me who here likes to fail, and admit one has committed a mistake? Exactly. But in those moments of second-guessing before throwing myself into the water with my vision, I have to be telling myself that there is no way to progress if there’s no failure, and everyone has gone through it, not being one single person that has been successful without making mistakes along the way. I can react with greater potential because I am metacognitive about the process I’m living through that can quickly try another more efficient solution to my end.
Another challenge I went through while choosing my great work was the changing of project so many times. When I thought about a project, and did my research I then learned that someone else have done it already. I had a reaction of not wanting to do it anymore, because that wouldn’t be original. I am now reminded by Mark Twain’s argument that there is no such thing as an original idea. I have come to the understanding that there are no original ideas, but there are unique ideas, that are made by unique individuals, with their own styles. That allowed me to feel freedom into doing my work with the knowledge and connections that only I have had through my many experiences.
The MPC experience so far has prepared me in creating my own discipline to how would I handle the responsibility without “bird-on the watch”, for those experiences that not even myself knows I’ll be handling in Term 5. As personal experience has shown me, the way of acquiring learning is by the process of trial and error. Is being able to reflect on the process you went through by recognizing that the means to your problem was not compatible with your ends sought. But is that it? No. This learning also teaches us that the only way to test your idea is by making it public.
The vision I have pictured in my mind: where every children of the world has developed this possibility of learning authentically through their self-discovery, gives me the strength and motivation to work harder and more meaningfully into my Term 5 curriculum.
Therefore, I will present to you my syllabi.
