What is art?

Art is the pure expression of human beings. It is the ability to convey one’s own thoughts, ideas and feelings into practice with a mindset that you will be able to reach craftsmanship or reach a standard you’ve created for yourself with the purpose of expressing the message you want others to see. Art’s first step happens inside of the individual’s mind, the process of thought combines with the new matrices when one is open to see the world with explorer’s eyes searching for new discoveries, later on the work of art continues to be portrayed in the individual’s imagination of how he wants to perform certain idea, and it is followed by finding the means that will lead him to create a master piece of art.
Every individual has the capacity to create art, and the main instrument he uses to create it, includes the human body. Any expression of the self can result into an art, such as corporeal movements, facial expressions, rhetoric, writings, and also his ability to transmit his ideas to others. Another very important instrument to create art is nature. Nature persé, is a master piece of art whose creator thought about patterns that transmits us an order, and colors that shows us the combination of light through our eyes. The creation of art is to arrange the elements presented by nature into a new combination that will express the inner soul of the artist. Nature is outside of our windows, waiting to be interpreted by the creative mind and applied into a canvas by the artist’s hands.
Authenticity is a key element in showing mastery in art. One has to be honest with oneself in order to take a path were no one has been through, but rather create a path that will take you in a journey of discoveries. One has to realize that it is a thoughtful job to create a path that no one is leading but yourself, and find the beauty and wonder about the journey instead of thinking only in the destination. After all, by taking different routes you’ll end up with a wide variety of experiences that will help you build your future in a more genuine way.
Thoughts such as I am right and he is wrong, in art are useless. For the main reason that we all do what we do different as others because the essence that makes us unique is what we must want to express and share with others. We need to understand that as individuals, we share different tastes, different experiences and different abilities, so in order to judge other piece of art one must first have empathy with the author and try to understand why he did what he did, and what was the process behind his creation as well as the learning obtained from the result. Sometimes we barely understand the pieces of art, or try very little to understand others because we filter new data in our own mental process of how we ought to do certain things and think very little on how others think and how they convey their learning process can be totally different from ours.
If we have this openness to be aware of new ways of thinking, and start focusing more in our inner sensations towards habitual ways of reacting towards certain things we will discover the immensity connections life has to offer, we need only to pay a closer look and express it in our own way. Everywhere we look we can see art in its major expression, we as human beings fall into routines very easily, we might fall into a dangerous trap if we are not able to get rid of the preconceived ideas, and start seeing nature’s beauty as it is, rather than taking it for granted. Rather than appreciating because of what they are and what they provide to us.
We must examine if our work of art creates magic through our eyes while seeing it, and not only if it accomplishes every single standard we’ve set. One must evaluate if the whole idea has been transmitted or has been developed into something even greater than you thought originally. It is a work of art that starts from the individual and even though is shared with others, it ends in the individual, because the work of art has been created to serve a need or answer a question that has been going on through the artist’s mind and it took him an entire process of thought and creativity to answer his doubt, being the only way to answer it by expressing it out loud and sharing with others.
The purpose of each work of art varies depending on the rules the artist is bounded by. When the artist notices he is alone in front of his white canvas and he is not aware of any rules yet, he will give his maximum effort in order to convey a clear message in his work of art. But still, something is missing; he has not been able to have the feeling of magic within with respect to the work of art. So, he takes a look at the process and notices he is doing something repeatedly and turns out to be good, so he starts creating a rule that he will follow every time he wants to convey that style. Before even of checking other artist’s rules, the artist must be brave enough to experience the process through his own success and failures. He might try a thousand times first, in order to have a sense of completeness in his work. One of the most important lessons here is that the artist has decided to have a look of the new rules for him, some rules that would make sense to him, instead of following the old prescription of how things in art should be done.
After all art is like a dialogue, the message is in what the artist tries to convey and how the spectator captures the information. And that is how Milagro Quiroa, started her conversation with us before going onto the details of what art is. I found very interesting this analogy and could apply it to my MPC experience beautifully. We are all inherent artists, and have a potential to become great artists, if we take the decision of being honest with ourselves and the work we express.
Every preparation to excellence takes both time and effort, and is inseparable from one another, we must assume the responsibility of our inner needs and wants to convey them into any form of expression that will serve us to reach the goal we have set for ourselves. We must listen to the inner voices of our souls and let them free through the beauty of truth and art.
