Chapter 1
On communication
We want to obtain mutual understanding and trust
Is it not possible that our crude and insensitive manner of thinking, about communication and talking about it is a major factor behind our inability to see what would be an intelligent action that would end the present difficulties?
Communication: make something common
Of course, such communication can lead to the creation of something new only if people are able freely to listen to each other, without prejudice, and without trying to influence each other.
Communication in the sense described above is necessary in all aspects of life. Thus, if possible are to co-operate (work together) they have to be able to create something in common, something that takes shape in their mutual discussions and actions, rather than something that is conveyed from one person who acts as an authority to the others, who act as passive instruments of this authority.

Chapter 2
In dialogues, nobody is trying to win, everybody wins if anybody wins.
Everybody has different assumptions and opinions, and these differences are defended when they are challenged, they reseist defendig them, and they tend to defen them with an emotional charge.
The point is that dialogue has to go into all the pressures that are behind our assumptions. It goes into the process of thought behind the assumptions, not just the assumptions themselves.
One difficulty in thinking is fragmentation, which originates in thought- it tis thought which divides everything up.
But now, we have to get started again, because it has become urgent that we communicate. We have to share our conciousness and to be able to think together, in order to do intelligently whatever is necessary. If we begin to confront what's going on in a dialogue group, we sort of have the nucleus of what's going on in all society. When you are by yourself, you miss quite a bit of that, even one-on one you don't really get it.
Suspend assumptions
The impulse of necessity
Propioception of thought: the point of suspension is to help make propioception possible, to create a mirror so that you can see the results of your thought. You have it inside yourself because your body acts as a mirror and you can see tensions arising in the body.
Collective participation: the object of dialogue is not to analyze things, or to win an argument, or to exchange opinions. Rather, it is to suspend your opinions and to look at the opinions- to listen to everybody's opinions, to suspend them, and to see what all that means.
If we can all suspend carrying out our impulses, suspend our assumptions, and look at them all, then we are all in the same state of conciousness
They become more open and trusting to each other. They have already gone through the thing that they are afraid of, so the intelligence can then work.
creativity- namely, an energy without a reason
the proper structure of an assumption or of an opinion is that it is open to evidence that it may not be right.
You have to watch out for the notion of truth. Dialogue may not be concerned directly with truth- it may arrive at truth, but it is concerned with meaning. If the meaning is incoherent you will never arrive at truth
If you see other people's thought, it becomes your own thought, and you treat it as your own thought. And when an emotional charge comes up, you share all the emotional charges, too, if they affect you, you hold them together with all the thoughts.

Metacognition:

When one starts thinking about his own thoughts and feelings then if one observes carefully he will find that this approach leads to a paradoxical problem of activity.
Paradox: Trying to solve a problem of your thinking through your thinking. Are you treating your own thinking and feelings as something separate from and independent of the thought that is thinking about them? But, there can be no separation and independence. We cannot jump off the system and self reference ourselves.
When you know something about yourself and still do it.
Is the questions that we make ourselves that are wrong.
Don't see it as a problem. Look it as an awareness.
There's no procedure to solve problems but to pose it as a paradox.

In essence, therefore, what is needed is to go on with life in its wholeness and entirety, but with sustained, serious, careful attention to the fact that the mind, through centuries of conditioning, tends, for the most part, to be caught in paradoxes, and to mistake the resulting difficulties for problems.
Dialogue itself helps you understand how the human mind works, helps you look at your problems, having external outputs to deal with paradox. sustained serious application from the participants and attentiveness of the whole group. How can dialogue be more than people getting together to talk about something? It is to create something new together and revealing, moves to coherence.

Thought has come to attribute itself to an image of an observer, a thinker.
Thought is a system belonging to the whole culture and society, evolving over history, and it creates the image of an individual who is supposed to be tje source of thought.
Thought tells you how things are, and then you choose how to act from the information
The very wrong things which he should be looking at are in the one who is looking, because that is the safest place to hide them. Hide them in the looker and the looker will never find them.

Physical reactions are being produced by thought, and therefore are not as significant as they would be if they were not being produced by thought.
You can get direct evidence that the thoughts are affecting the feelings and the feelings are affecting the thoughts without passing through “me”.
Proprioception “self perception”
How does the natural, useful distinction turn into the contradictions of the ego?
Awakening some other sense of what thought is through attention. Thought might become proprioceptive.
I shouldn’t be angry, im not angry really. Not suppressing the awareness of anger but rather suspending them in the middle at sort of an unstable point, so you can see at the whole process.
Recall: go over the words that have hurt you and find the words to express what you feel
Incoherence means that your intentions and your results do not agree.
Tacit is the concrete process is actual knowledge
Proprioception thought should be able to perceive its own movement, be aware of its own movement. In the process of thought there should be the awareness of that movement, of the intention to think and of the result which that thinking produces.
Thought is a material process and thought participates. If you get the insight that thought is not proprioceptive but requires proprioception, then that could begin to touch the synapses in the brain which hold those reflexes.
Experience, knowledge, thought, emotion, practice all one process.

They started to treat everything as a separate object. Literal thought is needed inwardly and participatory thought is needed outwardly.
Society is not an objective reality. It is a reality created by all the people through their conciousness.
All the views are just thoughts.
The nature of all the world is that it is all mutual participation- everything is everything.
Folded back into the rest of consciousness
Individual just by himself collective human being where we have a considerable number of people a society and a culture, cosmic: the sphere of mans immersion in nature, the cosmology of science and religion
What is our nature?
If you don’t attend to something you cant perceive it and cant be part of it
Implicit order: it is not explicit, you can’t see.
Dialogue are an implicate order that you part take of.
Emptiness in dialogues where nothing is occupying you.
We are going to have to put attention to this whole thing. Everything seems to go to pieces when there is trouble, we’ve got to find out how that distraction was part of the same process.
When you get strong enough as it were that you can stand firm in a distracting environment, then you’re strong enough to begin to look at the infinite.
He is describing two kinds of order: one in which we belong and the other which we create. Implicit and explicit order. Implicit nature, explicit systems, culture. Need a space to connect ideas.
Unlimited/ infinite view of how we can participate in dialogues. Focus on emptiness to grab tacit knowledge in dialogues.
