Why Barcelona?
Barcelona is the home of both my grandparents. A city I've heard since I was little, I had a connection already before coming. Barcelona is also the home of my brother who works in a firm of lawyers. The summer of 2014 my sister and I decided to give him a visit. Spend a couple of months and experience the european life. Since the airport both my parents were encouraging me to look for a job in Barcelona. As those things parents say, but you don't probably believe it's gonna happen. Well, so the first month went by flying. We went to Costa Brava, Tossa de Mar, had endless walks in El Born, Maremagnum, Ciutat de la Villa Olimpica, Platja d'aro, Camp Nou, etc. As the two months were almost coming to an end, Hazel, my brother's roomate, told me about an internship job in Transperfect, were she works and if I would be interested, she said that at least it was a 6 months commitment. At first I remember I saw it as a possibility not likely to happen. And something inside me told me to do all the steps and see it as an option. So they told me to send my CV, I took about 1 week and half to do it, I had never sent my CV, nor had one. So I did it and sent it to them. I was called, we did an interview over the phone and they later call me to do an interview in the office. I was seeing it coming closer and closer with the steps. So, the interview went super good, it felt natural and I was feeling relaxed. A bit uncomfortable when they ask you what you are good at and what are your flaws, it seems to me we know our flaws better than our qualities. When the interview finished I didn't knew if it was a 100% confirmation or not. So I felt confused but happy at the same time. I went to a coffee shop were my grandparents used to meet, ordered a coffee and a enseimada and I started writing my thoughts. I was there present admired about where I was standing, loving every single minute of it. Two days afterwards I received the confirmation call, and it felt beautiful. |
Barcelona, in the beginning I thought I was visiting you for only 2 months. Little did I know, you had so much to offer. A lifestyle like no other. Not only your food here is delicious, but the culture that is breath with such a view like the one in my picture, makes you think about your future. This air puts your feet on the ground, gives you the strength and vision of anything you want to pursue is possible, and cherry on the top, you will always find someone to celebrate what's right with the world with.
In a daily day basis, after doing your morning workout you decide to go to the little market that sell the most fresh and colorful fruit ever, to prepare your favorite smoothie, or just soak in the delicious nutrients that comes right from eating it with the skin still on... Every now and then while walking, you'll see and listen to, (most of the time) they're old men discussing about the recession, or something that they demand from others. I can't help myself but, to laugh. Because they look like children fighting and discussing about nonsense, thinking someone else will resolve their internal problems. I only think that in C.A. I would never have those encounters, never experience the real life that most of the citizens are going through, because truth is that we do live in a bubble, we decide not to use the public transportation because we've heard is dangerous, so we are never able to connect with others in that way we do here in the metro for example. Europe is a place of possibilities, dreams, and action!!! Therefore, with this inspiration I found it that 2 months was too short to deeply explore more of the subjects that brought me interest while visiting here. So, I managed to get an internship here, in a translation company, in the sales department, excited that it will be 5 months of intense work, but determined TODAY more than ever. I believe in my success, and my achievement of the life that I want, because anything that I will endure will be because of my higher purpose... A LIFE OF REASON AND HAPPINESS. |
